Seminar on ‘Promoting Intra European Mobility and overcoming barriers to free movement in the EU’ in Dublin – 25th – 28th of February 2025

On 25-28 February, representatives of Barka UK participated in a seminar in Dublin on the topic of “The Right to Free Movement in the EU”, which was organised as a part of the Erasmus Plus programme by the European Return and Migration Network.

What is a diaspora? What protection do citizens have when they return to their home country after living and working abroad? Do governments have a responsibility for their compatriots who are migrating around the world?

These and many other issues were discussed during a 3-day seminar on the topic of migration in Europe, which was held in Dublin, at the EPIC Irish Emigration Museum, as the case study was the migration of the Irish.

  • As many as 70 million people of Irish descent are living outside Ireland
  • Irish people abroad have played a significant role in raising Ireland’s potential in the world, both economically, politically and socially
  • The Irish diaspora had a huge impact on the introduction to the peace process in Northern Ireland

In Dublin we met, among others, with representatives of the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which places at the top of its priorities helping those Irish, who for some reason encountered problems when emigrating and living abroad.

The meeting were hosted by Irish organisations: Crosscare and Safe Home Ireland, which have been passionately and empathetically supporting their citizens returning to Ireland after long stays abroad.

The meetings in Dublin were of great importance to us because for 20 years Barka has been creating support programmes for integration in the host country, as well as assistance to Polish people experiencing difficulties in countries of Western Europe and returning to their homeland.
