Award
In 2009, Barka UK was awarded the Andy Ludlow Homelessness Award for its outstanding innovative and creative solutions for tackling homelessness in the capital.
Barka UK is a non-for-profit organisation that was established in June 2007. The organisation was created in response to an appeal by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, who became increasingly concerned with the plight of Central and Eastern European (CEE) migrants on the streets, who were suffering from homelessness and substance misuse.
Barka UK has since been working in London boroughs in close partnership with Local Councils, Outreach Teams, Day Centres, and CEE Consulates within its Reconnection Programme (assisting destitute persons returning to their country of origin). The provision of high quality services by the organisation is evidenced by the various testimonies, personal experiences and opinions of our ex-service users.
Barka UK’s Reconnection Project model has a proven successful track record of tackling homelessness in London, Holland, Ireland and Belgium.
